Problems you’ll encounter with the Genesis Blog Page Template
Establishing
a website without an issue is what we always want. WordPress is easy to use but
takes a lot of studies to be able to fully understand it and maximise its features. There are many templates
available online to customise your
website. Genesis blog page template has been widely used before because of its
features and because it’s user-friendly. However, in the past few years, there
are issues about Genesis blog page template that made people and even WordPress Developers Sydney skeptical into downloading and installing
it. It is said to lose some of its essential features and can definitely affect
your website. It’s best to just use standard WordPress template.
Up until
WordPress 3.9, the Genesis blog and archive page templates were inherited by
child themes and there wasn’t a simple way to remove them. Why does this matter? Upon building custom child themes for clients, a
variety functions are used to remove every unnecessary item and option from
Genesis to create a simplified and focused back-end. However, since there are
some old features removed in Genesis template, it is recommended to not ever
use the Genesis archive template, use the main WordPress settings instead and a
custom home. PHP file for child theme blog pages, instead of the Genesis
blog template.
This snippet
below will remove the Genesis blog and archive templates from the template
chooser on the main page archive screen quick edit function and the from the
individual page editor template chooser.
Remove Blog
& Archive Template From Genesis
add filter (‘theme_page_templates’,
‘bourncreative_remove_page_templates’);
function bourncreative_remove_page_templates(
$templates) {
unset (
$templates [‘page_blog.php’] );
unset (
$templates [‘page_archive.php’] );
return
$templates;
}
Once the Genesis blog template is
removed, there is no need for the blog page settings meta box on the theme
settings page. Leaving it may also be a source of confusion for
clients once the site is delivered.
Some of this may be quite technical and
overwhelming to non-programmers so it is still best to leave these things in
the hands of skilled developers from WordPress Developers Sydney to make sure your site is in good condition.
